Stitching the Sacred: Islamic Geometric Embroidery Workshop
Saturday March 9, 2024 @ 1:30PM - 3:30PM
401 Richmond St. W, Suite 303
Toronto, ON M5V 3A8
Engage in the timeless practice of geometry, an art form celebrated across cultures for its mystical and spiritual significance. This workshop will introduce participants to the practical art and philosophy around sacred and Islamic geometry.Geometric shapes make up the micro and macro of our natural world, a reminder of the principle of interconnectedness that is a suggestive nod to our individual relationship to the whole.
Using thread and pattern, participants will be guided through creating their own geometric art on paper while surrendering to the meditative practice of weaving. This immersive experience offers a pathway to personal growth, mindfulness and reflection, grounding individuals in the present moment while fostering a sense of community connection. As we approach the sacred observances of Ramadan and the Spring Solstice (Norooz), this workshop serves as a meaningful preparation, fostering a deeper connection to and understanding of these traditions.
Materials will be provided for use during the workshop, but participants are also welcome to bring in photos, paintings or other paper works should they want to experiment with the process further.
