Blueprinting the Divine: Cyanotype Workshop

Saturday August 17, 2024* @ 12:00PM - 2:00PM
Toronto Island Park

Discover the cyanotype process through demo’s that include coating paper with light-sensitive chemicals and hands-on activities using stencils and found plants. We will bridge the gap between the patterns of Islamic geometry and the observable patterns in nature, exploring how Islamic geometric patterns serve as abstractions of natural forms. This workshop will draw parallels between structured geometry and the organic beauty of the natural world while creating your own unique blue-hued artworks. Using sunlight for exposure connects our artistic process with the rhythms of the natural environment, highlighting our interaction with and inspiration from the world around us.

No prior experience is necessary; this workshop is suitable for all levels. All materials will be provided. Participants are also welcome to bring in plants, patterns, stencils or other 2D objects to experiment with. Workshop fee includes ferry ticket, four 6”x6” coated watercolour sheets, and one 4”x4” canvas/cotton coated fabric piece.

*This workshop is weather dependent, our rain date is August 24, 2024 12-2PM.
